
John Flynn is co-founder of The Project Managers Network, based in Sydney, Australia.
John Flynn is an experienced senior manager and a
professional management consultant specialising in project management and
information technology, having held country manager and general management roles
with major technology market research firms and large consulting companies. He has extensive experience in technology marketing and
forecasting, product development, business and information technology projects
in Australia, the USA and across many countries in the Asia Pacific region.
Although now based in Sydney, he has lived and worked for several years in
Singapore, Manila and Palo Alto, California.
He currently consults to public and private sector organisations, conducting
project reviews, mentoring and competency assessment programmes, aiming to
raise awareness of PM best practices within technical and non technical project
team members and managers. He is a qualified workplace assessor and has
conducted group assessments of engineering, business and IT staff for two major
insurance companies, a major bank, several IT companies and a defence contractor, as
well as individual project managers.
John has a specialised interest in applying project management techniques to
corporate start-ups and the development of new products or business strategies.
Over the past 17 years John has run major projects developing commercial
software packages for clients in the USA and Australia, including investment
management, environmental research, project management and electronic banking
and payments products.
He has wide experience in strategic consulting and technological market
research. He monitors IT industry trends, and has written numerous reports on
market projections and technical trends in the industry for clients throughout
the world.
John conducts training in decision-making, business cases, Risk and Project Management for
students across all disciplines, including in-house courses for charities,
social workers, foreign aid programmes, government departments and commercial
firms in Australia and Asia. He has spoken at conferences in Sydney and New
Zealand, and teaches at the postgraduate level at a major university.
John is an active member of the Project Management Institute and was a
Board member of the Sydney Chapter from February 2000 until February 2008.
During this time he edited the Chapter newsletter for 6 years and also served as
Marketing, Communications and later Membership
Director.
John was awarded the 2006 Distinguished Contribution award by the PMI Australian Chapters at the annual Project Manager of the Year event in October 2006.
